Star Anise is such a beautiful looking spice. It is the seed pod from the fruit of an evergreen native to China and Northeast Vietnam. It has a mild licorice flavour and is an ingredient "Chinese Five Spice" powder. It is the spice that gives Pho broth it's quintessential flavour.
